Hello! My name is Daisie Sutton and I live in Vancouver, WA with my sweet daughter. I enjoy the outdoors, spending time with friends and family. I originally grew up in Hockinson, WA and have traveled a lot over the years. I am proud to say that I come from a large family and currently have three brothers, two sisters that live across the country including Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon and Illinois. My love for music stems from my mother who was a classical pianist and was accepted at Julliard. She played the piano growing up to express herself and enjoyed classical artists such as Debussy and Schumann. She began taking piano lessons at the young age of 5 and it was her medium used to escape from stress experienced within her dysfunctional household.

Music was her passion, which was evident by how she played and won several competitions including one when she was 16 where she performed, "Preludium in D minor" by Edward Mcdowell from memory. My mom wanted to name me Rose or Petunia, but I am so happy she chose Daisie instead. She also recalls her grandmother singing, "Daisy, Daisy" all the time and believes it was her inspiration to give me my name. Very fitting as I am now a music therapist. :) I remember from a very young age listening to my mother perform and it captivated my heart. My mother recognized that out of her three children who attempted to play instruments such as the violin, I was the one that remained engaged and had emotional responses to the music (smiling and expressing my feelings). I was inspired by her passions to become invested in music myself and she encouraged me to listen to a wide range of genres while teaching me how to read music. While growing up, I played by ear as much as possible simple melody lines on the piano and learned bits and pieces of "Clair De Lune" from memory.

When I started school, I began playing the flute and it took me a whole month to learn how to make a sound on the instrument. My teacher was so proud of the fact that I never gave up and decided to give me an award in the 5th grade for most improved player. Fast forward a few years and I was accepted into the Vancouver School of Arts High School located in Vancouver, WA, a non private but specialized environment where I continued playing flute and learned about the Arts in relation to core academic classes. My second passion in school that my mother noticed about me from a very early age was my desire to help those around me and that I was very social with other children; especially those with disabilities. As my nephew had Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, I enjoyed spending time with him and would often hug him. My mother believed that I was attuned to his differences and that I could mirror his difficulties in empathy and compassion.

My love for flute took me to college at Central Washington University where I was accepted into a studio of six students and performed in choirs, ensembles and recitals. One of my favorite memories was when I got to play with all of the flute choirs at the capital building in Olympia, WA. I received my bachelors in music in June of 2009 and my love for music and passions for helping people lead me to pursue my masters in music therapy in Colorado where my father lived. While in grad school I took vocal, guitar lessons to become proficient and they are now my main facilitation therapy instruments. I also play auto harp, piano, ukulele, and occasionally utilize my flute in my sessions. I graduated from Colorado State University in 2013 with my masters equivalency degree in music therapy and completed a six month internship at the Sunshine Terrace Foundation senior facility in Logan Utah in 2015 and shortly there after moving back to Colorado to work in Denver for a couple of years.

I moved back to Washington State in 2017 and started up my music therapy business in 2018. Though Covid shut it down for a couple of years, I was able to find work in psychiatric hospitals during this time which included, South Sound Behavioral Hospital, Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital, Rainier Springs, Oregon State Hospital which helped me expand upon my populations served to help with depression, anxiety, psychosis, schizophrenia and mood disorders. As well as subcontracted through a local music therapy agency in Vancouver known as Upbeat Music Therapy. I also am contracting through Earthtones NW to service Oregon. I am hoping to teach music therapy classes and present in future national conferences on my current work. My longterm goals are to hire as well as train interns and students in the coming years. :)
